AK Governor Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor...

...effective July 26th, 2009.

My instant reaction- if this is a political move, it's an extremely gutsy and unorthodox move. Critics will say that she can't stand up to to the scrutiny as Governor- the scrutiny as President will be exponentially worse. I can't say that I would disagree with that from a political standpoint. It also doesn't bode well because critics will attack her "not wanting to be a lame duck" executive head- and this is also legitimate criticism, to say that wouldn't it make more political sense to suffer through the slings and arrows of a Congress that's not controlled by your party- and fight for what you believe in?

Politically- with the already over saturated disdain for this woman in the press, entertainment, the Left Wing sphere... it will make it incredibly difficult to overcome in 2012.

Personally- referring to that vile and aggressive vitriol focused on Palin, her family, her children... the sexist, misogynistic, venom-filled hate speech targeted at her because she's a young, attractive Conservative who doesn't fit the "GOP" mold... I can't blame her one iota for saying, you know what Left Wing Press? Letterman? KOS? Huffpo? Enough is enough. I'm tired, and I don't want to fight anymore.

What's interesting to watch, from the Left, is how flippant and disgusted they are at the thought of Palin running for President in 2012. To which I say, you've already dismissed her as a bimbo no-nothing Alaskan hick who is a dimwit, a moron, and worthless as a politician... so if she should win the GOP nomination for 2012- then that would lock up your boy Barry for another four years- so you should be celebrating this move.... Right?

An Open Letter To My Liberal Friends...

Hello friends.

I thought I'd take a different approach this week. I want to extend an olive branch to my Liberal and Progressive friends. I really do. I mean, healing has to begin somewhere, so why shouldn't it start now? So I'm going to take this special edition of my thoughts to reach out to my friends on the Left... my Greenpeace-loving, Earth saving, Big Government, Public Health Care wanting, Free Entitlement program Loving, rich people hating, anti-war activist tax and spenders.

I know that these past six months have been difficult on you. I know that you're sitting there, sipping your Starbucks, eating your tofu cake, or whole grain bran muffin, with your copy of Time Magazine (you know, the one with Barack Obama on the cover) and New York Times neatly folded at your coffee table. I know you're sweating through that hemp-fabric T-shirt, and you're wanting to turn the mercury filled environmentally friendly lightbulbs out and just crawl under a rock. I mean, who can blame you, Liberal friend? You have the entire political stage to yourselves. The Republicans have been neutered by the media, and each other. You have the Senate, complete with comedian Al Franken as the latest Senator to join the club. You have the House of Representatives. You have the White House. It's all yours. And now with all of the chips turning blue... you're being forced to watch things fall completely apart- and you're running out of people to blame. I mean, I guess Dick Cheney is still out there- but Dubya is in Texas, and Palin is in Alaska (but let's be honest- we can *always* drag out ol' Sarah Palin to kick around when things aren't going so well, can't we- as evident by this coming Vanity Fair), so the Gang of Three, Obama- Pelosi- and Reid, are calling all the shots.

The "stimulus package" has been an abysmal failure, has done nothing to create jobs, has been wrought with corruption, money is missing, it was a bad idea. The guy who doesn't want to run car companies and backs owns both.... and now word comes out that we will probably never recoup the taxpayer investment we put into GM. Banks are not loaning money despite the massive influx of cash in them. We're coming up on 10% unemployment (which I was told that we'd max out at 8% if this stimulus package passed), but through all of this- you're giving your guy the benefit of a doubt.

And that's okay, Liberal friend. Because we were once there, too. Remember? Remember George W. Bush? Yeah. We loved him. We just *so* loved the way he tackled the War on Terror and defending our nation from extremist attacks. We praised how he was willing to take the necessary steps to keep us safe. And then one day, after Harriet Miers, and Donald Rumsfeld, and the prescription drug debacle, and the TARP debacle, and the rubber stamping of spending projects in Congress... we took another look at Bush and said, wait a minute. This isn't what we wanted. This isn't what we asked for. Yeah, and you remember because you kicked us around in 2006, and in 2008, and all points in between reminding us of what a tremendous mistake we made.

So now we're six months in... and we find the the Obama Approval Index at a -2, the press is starting to turn in their Obama Fan Club cards and actually criticize this Administration for it's puppetshows they call "town-hall meetings" (which again, why the outrage here- Conservatives have been complaining about his shams of town-hall meetings for years now- with the pro-Administration advocates posing as "concerned citizens"). This President, the one you bet the farm on as an agent of change and a promise of a new kind of politcs - has brought nothing but the same old politics as usual- whether its suppressing White House visitation logs, strong-arming Inspectors General to be fired or quit for doing their jobs, signing legislation moments after it passes (remember that thing about having legislation posted for 5 days before it's signed so *we* could read them, debate and discuss them? Yeah. Me too.).

This guy who you bet the farm on to change the way we were viewed in the world, to restore our image around the planet: can't close a perfectly acceptable detention center for some of the world's most vile terrorist vermin on Earth because no other country on Earth will take them. He lectures Israel on stopping settlements- but doesn't want to "meddle" in the affairs of Iran's highly contested election results, and the subsequent beatings and killings of innocent democracy loving citizens of Iran- but has no problem standing against the "unlawful" military coup in Honduras. Meddling? Now we learn that the outsted ex-President of Honduras tried to circumvent Honduras's Congress and their Constitution and make a power grab to stay in office because he was going to lose his re-election. This was a bad move, and an unpopular move, and yet our Administration chose to side publicly and quickly with the likes of Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. Meddling?

Now admist a weak and fragile economy, with job losses nearing 10%... this Congress and this Administration are putting forth two MASSIVE government interventions into cap-and-trade and healthcare. Now, I know because so few of you actually bothered to respond to my healthcare post (you either didn't choose to read it, or the cold hard factual numbers made you think twice and you didn't want to admit it); something hit home... so I'm curious. Was it the review of the European model of healthcare- and how the rationing, the fact that it's bankrupting these nations, the fact that the quality of healthcare has been stagnant - even declined in those countries? The fact that the government intervention will discourage doctors from wanting to get into practice? The fact that a government bureaucracy will now be a go-between you and your doctor? The fact that your tax dollars, will be spent for other people's irresponsibilities?

...

And now comes cap-and-trade bill; which will amount to the largest tax increase in the history of the world- a gigantic piece of legislation that no one has read but are ready to enact into law, that will stifle job creation in this country (recall the European cap-and-trade study that shows for every "green" job created, 2.2 jobs are lost); make everything you pay for more expensive- as electric companies, energy producers pass on the higher taxed trade costs to the consumer- so not only will your light bill increase, but the gas you put in your car- the food you buy, the clothes you buy, everything... or when the GE Smart Grids get implemented, we can start rationing power to our homes by either having the Government say "every kilowatt of electricity you use over X amount- will cost you an extra 20%"... And do you like the provision in this bill that before you sell your house you have to outfit it to meet "green" standards- guess who'll have to pay for that? You think that'll make it easier to sell your house???

Oh- that's right. You're telling me - 'well we have to do something, Torrey.' Right. We have to do something. Kinda like, I lost my job- so I had to rob a bank. I mean, I had to do *something*.

I say all this to say this, friend. Polling data suggests that many of you are now starting to realize what we told you months ago. You were sold a bill of goods. You had an unpopular President, you had a media not doing it's job, you were wrapped up in the idea of "hope" and "change" and all of the sing-songy collocquialisms that came with one of the biggest con jobs in American political history. You believed it when they said no one under $250,000 would see one cent of their taxes raised. Or was it $200,000. Or was it $150,000. At any rate- you went all in on this guy- and now the sobering "buyer's remorse" is starting to settle in.

So I'm here to say, it's okay. We've been there. And we'll be here when you're ready to start being honest about what these criminals are doing to your country. We'll get through it together. You'll forgive us if we throw you an "I told you so" (I mean, you haven't stopped reminding us about the problems of the previous Administration, right?).

But we're compassionate. We're conservative. We'll be here to help when you finally start to get it together.
